Darian Rice, MD, PhD, CAsP Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia, USA

Darian Rice, MD, PhD is the Residency Program Director and Chief, Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. His interests include academics, research, echocardiography, critical care ultrasound, simulation in education, cerebral/cardiovascular monitoring, and aerospace physiology and life support. Outside these activities, he has had the great fortune of serving as a team member on the NASA Space Shuttle Medical Support Team, was able to participate in a humanitarian mission to Belize to assist with the first ever open heart surgery, and more recently was deployed to Afghanistan where he served as the Department Head of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at a regional multinational trauma hospital.
