Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative Coordinator for Spanish Community Initiative Breastfeeding Committee of the Spanish Pediatric Association

Dr. Maite (MT) Hernández-Aguilar, MD, MPH, is a pediatrician working for the Spanish Health Service in Valencia in the Primary Care Pediatric Clinic, "Fuente de San Luis," and Hospital Doctor Peset. She tutors pediatric residents and medical students in the Health Department in collaboration with the Pediatric Department of the University of Valencia School of Medicine. She is a member of the Committee of Breastfeeding of the Spanish Pediatric Association, coordinator of the Community Baby-Friendly Initiative (BFI) in Spain, and an active member of the BFI Coordinator’s Network for the developed world, led by the World Health Organization. Dr. Hernandez gained her medical degree at the University Complutense of Madrid, and her degree as a pediatrician in Hospital La Fe, Valencia. She was awarded a Fulbright Grant to study her master’s of public health and nutrition in the University of California at Berkeley. Her main areas of interest include child nutrition, breastfeeding, BFHI, breastfeeding training methodology, and breastfeeding policy issues.
