Nathaen Weitzel, MD University of Colorado, Denver, CO, USA
Dr. Weitzel earned his MD from the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine, graduating in 2003. After completing his internship in general surgery at St. Joseph / Exempla hospital, he went on to complete his Anesthesia Residency at the University of Colorado Denver Department of Anesthesiology, where he was awarded the Resident of the Year Award upon Graduation, the highest honor for graduating residents. Dr. Weitzel then went on to complete his Fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology prior to taking a position as Faculty at the University of Colorado Denver.
Currently as an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Dr. Weitzel serves Assistant Operating Room Director, and Director of Perioperative TEE services, having successfully mentored multiple fellows through the Cardiothoracic Fellowship. An active educator, he was awarded Teacher of the Year by the Department of Anesthesiology in 2009. He also served as the Block Director for the Perioperative care clerkship for the 3rd year medical students at the University of Colorado School of medicine from 2009 – 2012. His research interests include platelet function associated with cardiopulmonary bypass, use of 3D TEE technology in the OR and interventional suite, as well as investigation into the development of post-thoracotomy pain syndrome associated with thoracic surgery. He has served as the Cardiac Section Editor for the Manual of Clinical Anesthesiology and has personally authored over 20 book chapters, numerous educational reviews and original research manuscripts.
