Peter Hartmann B Rur Sc, PhD, is a Winthrop Professor, School of Biomedical, Biomolecular and Chemical Sciences, The University of Western Australia. He has supervised 48 completed PhD students and received the Macy-Gyorgy award from ISRHML in 2006, the Rank Prize for Nutrition in the UK in 2010. He is a Fellow of Nutrition Society of Australia, current President of ISRHML and a Visiting Professor, Kagawa Nutrition University, Sakado, Japan. In addition he is co-editor of a Hale & Hartmann’s Textbook of Human Lactation 1st ed 2007. Current topics of investigation include:

a. Breastmilk synthesis and composition

b. Milk ejection and breastmilk removal by either the suckling infant or electric breast pumps

c. Breastmilk composition and intake on appetite control in the breastfed infant

d. Evidence base for clinical assessment of lactation
