Author Information

Authors can make their article open access either via the gold OA publishing or green OA archiving as described below.

A number of funders require research articles which have resulted from their funding to be made open access, including RCUK, NIH and Wellcome Trust. Sage helps authors comply with these mandates either via the gold open access publication route or green open access archiving.

Please check with your funders if there is a mandate to publish your research open access and the criteria for compliance. These resources may be helpful:


Journals Permissions

UK Jisc Agreement

Sage has an agreement with Jisc for subscribing Jisc institution members to cover open access article processing charges (APCs) for affiliated corresponding authors. The UK Jisc Agreement, open to all UK institutions who are consortium members, will run between 2023 and 2024. The details of the UK Jisc Agreement are as follows: 



Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE)

Sage has an agreement with Manipal Academy of Higher Education to publish articles open access. The agreement for participating organizations will run from April 01, 2024, through to March 31, 2029. The details of the agreement are as follows: 

To qualify for the agreement, the corresponding author must be affiliated with Manipal Academy of Higher Education and have an article accepted for publication between April 01, 2024, and March 31, 2029

Frequently asked questions

The Sage Choice program offers authors the option to publish their article open access in hybrid Sage subscription journals. It also enables authors to comply with funding body requirements, where publishing research papers open access is a stipulation of funding, while still publishing their article in the hybrid journal of their choice.
