William Ruger American Institute of Economic Research, USA
William Ruger is the Vice President, Research and Policy, at the Charles Koch Institute and Vice President, Policy, at the Charles Koch Foundation. He is also a research fellow in foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute and a Senior Advisor & Foreign Policy scholar at Defense Priorities. Ruger is on the Executive Council of the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society, and he served for many years as the book review editor for its journal Armed Forces and Society.Ruger was previously an associate professor in the political science department at Texas State University and an adjunct assistant professor at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas-Austin. He earned a Ph.D. in politics from Brandeis University and an A.B. from the College of William & Mary. He has written numerous books and articles, and his scholarship has appeared in publications such as International Studies Quarterly, Civil Wars, and Armed Forces and Society. He has been interviewed frequently for television and radio, appearing on MSNBC, Fox News, CNBC, and Fox Business. He has written op-eds for a number of outlets and newspapers, including USA Today, Time, Investor’s Business Daily, and New York Daily News. He is a veteran of the Afghanistan War and an officer in the U.S. Navy (Reserve Component).
