Already a tried-and-tested guide for trainee psychologists and psychotherapists, as well as clinicians in mental health services and private practices, this text is also of value to practitioners who need refresher courses in CBT.
This was a welcome addition to the body of literature on CBT; not least because it covers basic principles, details of how CBT works with different forms of mental distress, the evidence base for CBT and a range of practice issues.
My only criticism is that the I thought the final chapter on the evidence base and philosophical debates would have worked better as a series of challenges to the efficacy and legitimacy of CBT together with a series of rebuttals thereof.
Very detailed book with a good range of activities.
A readable overview of cognitive-behavioural approaches and their application to mental health care. The text usefully makes reference to the growing field of CBT in terms of interventions and new target populations. Material on values and social context for practice fits well with the course ethos.
An excellent book to aid formulation and assessment skills. Essential reading for those involved in providing care to clients with complex disorders - clear and accessible and a rich resource - a must have reference for novice and experienced practitioners.
I found the book useful. Two chapters in particular have been most helpful - older adults and cbt and the serives users invovlement. Thank you
This is an excellent book covering the therapeutic factors associated with CBT approach and contemporary evidence in relation to its use in practice across a range of presentations.I have highly recommended it to my Mental Health nrsing students.
I was very impressed with this text. It is written at graduate level, combining advanced theoretical input with clinical application and contextual clarification, particularly in the light of current trends in the profession. The clinical vignettes demonstrate a well-integrated version of CBT - which is particularly of interest to our students on an integrative course. It is the first CBT text I have come across that includes designated chapters on personality disorders and bipolar disorder, as well as working with older people. I think it is a good all-rounder, and will highly recommend it to my students
A book which covers all aspects of CBT from common mental health problems through to psychosis
