Los Angeles, CA - Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences, by Dr. Gregory J. Privitera, has been honored by the Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA) with a 2014 Most Promising New Textbook Award (Texty). The book was published in July of 2013 by SAGE.

The Most Promising New Textbook category was created in 2012 to recognize current textbooks and learning materials that are still in their first editions. Judges are published textbook authors.

Diabetes, epilepsy and asthma increase risk of self-harm

New research quantifying the risk of admission to hospital for self-harm has identified a raised risk of self-harm among groups of patients with certain physical illnesses. While it is known that psychiatric illnesses are associated with a greatly elevated risk of self-harm, a moderately elevated risk was seen with common physical illnesses such as diabetes, epilepsy and asthma.

Rosuvastatin treatments particularly effective among prediabetic

Los Angeles, CA - Cardiovascular disease is the leading causes of death worldwide and high cholesterol plays a major role in accelerating its progression. Medical practitioners have turned to statins as a treatment to decrease cholesterol-carrying lipoproteins such as small dense lipoproteins (sdLDL), considered to be especially harmful. A new study, out today in the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Therapeutics finds that rosuvastatin may be more effective among prediabetic patients than patients with normal glucose levels.

Many women are turning to egg freezing to promote fertility, but what happens when it isn’t an option because of special medical or other conditions? And, what option is there for women who want to preserve hormonal function, not just fertility? Ovarian tissue freezing, an outpatient procedure which removes and freezes ovarian tissue for later use, can deliver these outcomes but has been considered experimental until now. According to a new study, nearly four out of 10 (37.7%) women who undergo the procedure are able to have children later in life as a result.
