'One of the very best introductions to CBT, now enhanced with excellent coverage of new developments.'
Professor Neil Frude, Consultant Clinical Psychologist
'My first choice recommendation for trainee therapists. This outstanding and easy-to-read introduction just got better.'
Peter Simpson, Senior Lecturer in Mental Health, University of Glamorgan
In their established guide to contemporary CBT theory and practice, the authors show how therapeutic change takes place across a network of cognitive, emotional and behavioural functioning. They explain the central concepts of CBT and illustrate - with numerous case examples - how these can effectively be put into practice at each stage of the therapeutic process. They also explain how the essence of cutting edge 'third wave' can be integrated into everyday clinical practice.
With two new chapters on mindfulness and increasing access to CBT, a wider coverage of client issues, extra case studies and learning resources, and a discussion of recent developments, this book continues to be the ideal companion for those working - or training to work - in the psychological therapies and mental health.
Frank Wills is an independent Cognitive Psychotherapist in Bristol and tutor at the University of Wales Newport.
Diana Sanders, Counselling Psychologist and BABCP Accredited Cognitive Psychotherapist in Independent Practice, Oxford.
An excellent introduction to this topic. I would highly recommend this book.
The addition of a section on CBT and IAPT is useful as many of our students work in an IAPT context. Also the emphasis on Third Wave CBT approaches is welcome as we do include these in yr 2 of our CBT course. Overall the book represents significant improvements to former titles by the same authors (e.g. CBT : An Intro). Material is very accessible and this is helped by use of good illustrative client examples. Would be good to see a section on critique/challenges to CBT and perhaps to include other Third Wave approaches such as Compassionate Mind Therapy
A very good book in an ever expanding sea of CBT text books
This book provides an excellent text for students looking to develop their skills and knowledge of CBT. It adopts a relational stance to CBT and covers a more contemporary approache that compliments each other.
This text is been recommended for our Behavioural Approaches module in year one and also our Professional Cert in CBT.
This is a great updated edition, clearly accessible for new to CBT students it gives a solid grounding in the concepts and constructs and the clinical exapmles are particularly helpful as they make the material come alive.
a useful book providing the basic information required to have a working knowledge of CBT
An excellent introductory text that provides a good overview of CBT.
This is a really 'learner' friendly and easy to read/understand book. I particularly like the case studies throughout. The additional information regarding Mindfulness and the new wave of CBT is of real interest.
